제목 Removal of Nitric Oxide (NO) Gas Using Microalgal Photobioreactor
초록 A photoautotrophic cultivation of green algae Scenedesmus cells was applied for the removal of nitric oxide (NO) from a model flue gas mixture. In order to enhance NO solubility in the culture broth, the influence of Fe(II)EDTA addition to the cultivation was evaluated. The addition of Fe(II)EDTA significantly enhanced the algal removal of NO, because the dissolution of NO in culture broth was increased via chelate formation with Fe(II)EDTA, and a subsequent increase in algal NO uptake. Some of the oxidized Fe(III)EDTA reverted to Fe(II)EDTA, a process that was mediated by microalgae cells, and thus a reversible oxidation-reduction equilibrium was established between Fe(II)EDTA and Fe(III)EDTA. Therefore, the extent of NO removal achieved with Fe(III)EDTA was similar to that achieved with Fe(II)EDTA.
