Spray-coated Superhydrophobic Surfaces with Transparency |

In this study, we prepared near-perfect superhydrophobic surfaces that exhibit high static water contact angles (up to 178°) and negligible sliding angles. A statistical copolymer composed of 3-[tris(trimethylsilyloxy)silyl]-propyl methacrylate (SiMA) and methylmethacrylate (MMA) was synthesized. Poly(SiMA-co-MMA) surfaces coated by spray-coating process were composed of submicron-sized polymeric particles, providing high roughness and thus superhydrophobicity. The thickness and the transmittance were controlled by varying the ratio of the copolymer to a solvent (acetone). The transmittance of a superhydrophobic surface prepared from 0.2 wt% polymer solution is higher than 75% in the rage of visible wavelength. |
