In this work, spherical Gd2O3 phosphor particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis and used to make a phosphor film by a dispensing system. In order to improve the size distribution of phosphor particles prepared, a droplet screening system was developed and applied to the spray pyrolysis process. Also, the binder system consisting of polymer (ethyl cellulose) and solvent (2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol) was investigated to be proper to formulate the phosphor paste for the dispensing system. Using the droplet screening system was helpful to obtain Gd2O3 phosphor particles with uniform size distribution. The formulated spherical phosphor paste was applied to the dispensing system by which the phosphor film was formed within the barrier ribs. In comparison with the commercial Y2O3 with large particle size and irregular shape, it was clear that the spherical phosphor particles make it possible to obtain better phosphor film in terms of surface uniformity and packing density, which influences the photoluminescence intensity. In this work, the usefulness of spherical phosphor particle was experimentally proved when they are used to make the phosphor film within the barrier ribs. |
