Organocatalysis for Synthesizing Druggable Chemicals: Trial & Error |

With the generation of harmful side products, high E-factor of pharmaceutical industry is an important problem to be overcame. Even though catalysis can be a solution to reduce cost (economical & safety control) as well as E-factor, heavy metals as major powerful catalysts strictly have applied to pharmaceutical industry due to toxicity of a residual metal. Until today, while tremendous organcatalysts for druggable chemicals strongly have been developed in academia, they shows very limited application to industry. This presentation consists of three parts: (1) concise view of asymmetric PTC (phase-transfer catalysis) as a successful case, (2) jumping history from PTC to iodine chemistry, and (3) my current research on DFT based hypervalent iodine catalysis. |
