A chromonic liquid crystal (CLC) polarizer was fabricated from Sunset Yellow FCF (H-SY) Macroscopic molecular orientation was achieved by bar-coating the self-assembled lyotropic CLCs and the oriented structure was frozen by the subsequent photo-polymerizing processes. Their molecular packing structures and optical behaviors were further investigated using the combined techniques of microscopy, scattering and spectroscopy. The polymer-stabilized H-SY films showed good mechanical and chemical stabilities without sacrificing a high polarizability. Therefore it can allow us to develop the smart optical and electrical devices.
