Avastin-loaded heparin-Pluronic nangels tethered with cyclic RGD for treatment of choroidal neovascularization |

Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is one of the severe pathological consequences of the age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Currently intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF agent such as Avastin shows significant promise for the treatment of AMD. However, this approach has shortcoming because of occurring a complication caused by glaucoma and detachment of retina. In this study, Avastin loading heparin-Pluronic (AHP) nanogels tethered by cRGD has been prepared and investigated for treatment of CNV via i.v. injection. AHP nanogels were prepared by direct dissolution method. The mean sizes of AHP nanogels were increased from 40 to 60 nm. Avastin loading efficiency of AHP nanogels was ranged from 70 to 80%. In vivo fluorescein angiography reveals that significant fluorescence image indicated the HP nanogels was detected on CNV induced region after i.v. injection. Obtained results support that the HP nanogels can be a promising carrier for treatment of CNV. |
