Control of Vertical Distribution of Bulkheterojunction Solar Cells using an Unconventional Spin Casting Method |

For bulkhetrojunction(BHJ) polymer solar cell, the control of BHJ morphology of the polymer solar cell can act as a critical factor for the device performance. Particularly, each component of P3HT:PCBM mixture has different favorableness to the surface of PEDOT:PSS layer and a thin PCBM layer on the PEDOT:PSS surface could be formed between BHJ layer and PEDOT:PSS layer. The thin PCBM layer might be a hole blocking barrier due to their high HOMO level, thereby reducing the device efficiency. Here, we successfully controlled the vertical distribution of PCBM in the BHJ solar cells by using an unconventional spin casting method which can make a thin film when a sample spinning. As a result, the device fabricated by the unconventional method showed the enhancement of fill factor and photocurrent compared to the conventional device structure. These results indicate that we can have the well-controlled distribution of BHJ as a ideal morphology for the high performance of BHJ solar cells. |
