Coal-fired power plants produce electricity and significant amounts of flue gas which mainly contains N2, O2, CO2 and water vapor. Especially, we are focused on the separation of water vapor in flue gas for water re-use system. In this study, polyethersulfone(PES) was selected by polymeric membrane, however it has a hydrophobic properties. Therefore, the acid and plasma treatment was carried out to enhance hydrophilicity of PES for increasing the water flux. The surface modification of PES is characterized by FT-IR, SEM, XPS and the hydrophilicity is quantified by contact angle. As acid treatment, contact angle was not significantly changed by the conc. of H2SO4(0~50%). However, in case of Ar plasma treatment, it was observed the hydrophilicity of PES surface was dramatically increased by time(0~5min). Contact angle was changed from 75.6° to 32°. The results demonstrate that a plasma treated PES surface is more hydrophilic and effectively separates the water vapor in flue gas. |
