The synthesis of biomimetic silica nanoparticles with well controlled particle size is a major challenge in many fields of research. Conventional methods have only demonstrated the preparation of polydisperse nanoparticles because of the limitation for low mixing efficiency in commonly used batch reactor and uncontrollable reactivity of biomimetic process. In this study, we present a biomimetic preparation of silica nanoparticle in the microreactor as the mimicking (silica deposition vesicle) SDV of the bio-mineralization process by using droplet-based microfluidic method. This approach leads to a reduction in reaction time and allows drastically improved size uniformity compared to conventional methods. The morphology, composition, and structure of the silica nanoparticles are analyzed by SEM, FT-IR, EDS. Finally, we suggest the mechanism for the improvement in uniformity of particles size synthesized by microdroplet reactor mimicking cellular reaction vessel. |
