Polyester thermoplastic elastomer (TPEE) is one of the important engineering thermoplastic elastomers possessing high thermal stability, excellent mechanical performances, and processibility. In this study, TPEE/silicone rubber (VMQ) blends was prepared using ethylene-butyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (E-BA-GMA) as a compatibilizer by melt mixing, and their structure, bulk and surface properties were characterized by FTIR, DMA, tensile test, contact angle measurements and XPS. Molau test of TPEE/E-BA-GMA blend and VMQ /E-BA-GMA blend showed that E-BA-GMA is chemically grafted onto each polymer during the melt mixing, which enables the copolymer to compatibilize the TPEE/VMQ blends. Contact angle measurements showed that the blend form surface segregated structure and surface hydrophobicity increased with increasing VMQ content in the blends and, at a given VMQ content, compatibilized blend showed higher surface hydrophobicity than the uncompatibilized blend. |
