제목 An in vitro assessment of the antibacterial properties and cytotoxicity of biodegradable silver-containing PHBV nanofibrous scaffolds in tissue engineering
초록 Infections with bacteria have become a serious problem in joint arthroplasty. This study reports about in vitro antibacterial activity and in vitro cytotoxicity of PHBV nanofibers loaded with silver particles (520nm). In vitro antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae was studied by microplate proliferation tests. The adhesion, viability and proliferation properties of fibroblasts and osteoblasts were done to study in vitro cytotoxicity. Only silver-containing PHBV nanofibrous scaffolds showed high-antibacterial activity and an inhibitory effect on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. There was no significant difference regarding in vitro cytotoxicty between silver-containing and non-containing PHBV scaffolds. It was found, from in vitro experiments, that the silver-containing nanofibrous scaffolds have a potential to be used in joint arthroplasty.
