Modulation of cell fate on the synthetic biomaterials can be achieved by immobilizing bioactive molecules. Although plasma and gamma-ray treatment were widely used to functionalize surface of synthetic materials, those methods require several steps and time consuming tasks. To develop simple and easy modification method, we developed a simple modification strategy using dopamine as a bridge to immobilized gelatin on poly(L-lactic acid-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL). Adhesion, spreading and proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells were significantly increased on the simply developed gelatin-modified fibrous meshes. In addition, differentiation of the cells was also affected by the immobilized gelatin on the fibrous meshes. Using this simple method, synthetic biomaterials can be easily functionalized, and the cell fate may be modulated on the materials through further immobilization of bioactive molecules. |
