Adsorption technology has been extensively used to remove the nitrate from water and wastewater. In this study, crosslinked chitosan bead was synthesized for applying the nitrate removal. First, chitosan beads were prepared using chitosan (3 wt%), acetic acid aqueous solution (3 wt%) and sodium hydroxide (2N). The beads prepared were then cross-linked with epichlorohydrin. The cross-linked chitosan beads were characterized by using SEM, FT-IR, XRD, and N2 adsorption measurements. In addition, nitrate adsorption equilibrium experiments were performed at different conditions. The nitrate concentration change was determined using IC and UV-vis. In particular we examined the influence of initial concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature on the nitrate adsorption properties. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm data were fitted by Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips equations. |
