The focus of the study was to investigate the effect of thermal aging upon the crosslink-density, structure and mechanical properties of natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates with nano ZnO. The thermal aging was conducted at 80℃ for 8 days. The effect of thermal aging was measured from the changes in the crosslink-density and structure of NR vulcanizates as a function of time. The degree of crosslink density was increased with increasing time for 4 days, but it was decreased for time aging from 6 to 8 days. The percentage of polysulfidic crosslinks was decreased with aging time, while mono- and di-sulfide crosslinks were increased. The change in the degree and the percentage of NR vulcanizates filled with nano ZnO was very lower than that with micro ZnO. The changes in mechanical properties were also monitored and were similar to the changes in the crosslinking behavior. It was found that nano ZnO provide high resistance against thermal aging of NR vulcanizate. |
