Properties of Water-soluble Chitosan-based Scaffolds Modified by Gamma Irradiation |

In order to develop a scaffolding material for tissue regeneration, the water-soluble chitosan-based (N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan) scaffolds were prepared by a gamma irradiation instead of a solvent evaporation technique. To enhance the porous network system, different amounts of alginate and gelatin were used. We investigated the mechanical properties such as a gelation, water absorptivity, and gel strength of corresponding scaffolds and also compared the effect of acidic solvent and temperature on a cross-linking polymerization when using a water-insoluble chitosan. The swelling test and IR spectroscopic measurement of different cross-linked membranes were also carried out as a measure of the extent of cross-linking. |
