Microencapsulation of Titania and Polymeric Nanoparticles by Complex Coacervation Process |

Nano-sized polymeric and TiO2 particles were successfully encapsulated within gelatin-gum arabic microcapsules. In the first stage of reaction, polymeric or titania nanoparticles were dispersed in low dielectric oils and microencapsulation process was carried out by complex coacervation of gelatin and gum arabic. Later, these nanoparticle-containing coacervates were crosslinked by glutaraldehyde through the reaction with amino groups in gelatin in an attempt to improve the durability of the microcapsules. A similar complex coacervation process was carried out using cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB). The size distribution and shell thickness of both microcapsules prepared with and without CTAB were precisely measured. |
