제목 | Induction of chirality in helical poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) by end-capping with chiral acid chlorides |
초록 | Poly(n-hexyl isocyante) (PHIC) synthesized by living anionic polymerization using sodium benzanilide initiator has been successfully end-capped using aliphatic acyl chloride in presence of pyridine as the catalyst. The efficiency of end-capping turned out to be nearly 100% . PHIC adopts a helical structure in solution with both P (left handed) and M (right handed) helix . Green and co-workers induced optical activity into achiral-polymers by introducing minor chiral monomer units by “Seargent and Soldier’s Principle” , , . In the present study induction of optical activity by end-capping PHIC with chiral materials was studied. Induction of chirality in PHIC was effected by end-capping with chiral (R and S) 2-bromo-3-methylbutyryl chloride. Polymers with different molecular weights were synthesized to study the effect on optical activity by changing the molecular weights as well as temperature.
