Polymeric materials such as polyarylite (PAR), cyclo olefin polymer (COP/COC), polyimide (PI), and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) have been developed as flexible plastic substrates. However, they do not satisfy all requirements such as high optical transparency, easy chemical modification, and excellent thermal and mechanical properties as well as good processibility. Moreover, a crucial obstacle in developing new flexible materials is that heat-resistance is negatively correlated to transparency. Amorphous aromatic polyester could be strong candidate as a substrate for high performance electronic devices in an active matrix mode. This presentation will introduce recent developments in advanced materials for flexible plastic substrates and also report synthesis of novel cardo-based aromatic polyesters and their physical properties. |
