Recently silver nanoparticles and N-halamine have been used widely for the biocidal application due to the its antimicrobial and antibacterial activity. In this study, we prepared poly[oxy[(3-chloro-4,4-dimethyl-imidazolelidine-2,5-dionyl)methyl]ethylene](CE-CX)/Silver nanoparticle composites can be used biocidal materials. New biocidal polymeric N-halamines having an oxyethylene backbone were synthesized using polymer analogous reactions of poly[oxy(chloromethyl)ethylene] with 5,5-dimethylhydantoin followed by chlorination. After chlorination, silver perchlorate was mixed with CE-CX and reduced by UV for 24h at 25°C. Then CE-CX/Silver nanoparticle composites were coated onto the slide glass for solution casting. These composites exhibited potent antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli. Besides, these composites show excellent biocidal property and stability when were coated on hard surface unlike the existing biocidal materials. |
