Carbon Nanotube Network Structuring Using Two-Dimensional Colloidal Crystal Templates |

We have fabricated CNT films with special network structure marked by the presence of ordered voids within the film by using sacrificial 2D silica colloidal crystals. These CNT films show superior optical transmittance compared to CNT films with random network structures, because the ordered voids enable efficient transmittance of light. Our method affords several degrees of freedom in tailoring the physical properties of the films. For example, additional deposition of CNTs onto the colloid–CNT complex films allowed us to control the density and thickness of the CNT chain in the films, while varying the size of the sacrificial colloidal particles enabled us to further tailor the microstructure of the CNT films. These CNT films make excellent potential candidates for use in transparent conducting media, while this work offers a new concept in CNT network structuring. |
