High molecular weight poly(N-vinyl carbazole) (PVCz) nanowebs were prepared by electrospinning. To investigate the effects of type of solvents on the spinnability and the morphology of electrospun PVCz, PVCz solutions were prepared by dissolving PVCz in tetrahydrofuran (THF), chloroform or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (TCE) at various weight percentages. Electrospun PVCz nanowebs with various dimensions and shapes have been prepared by controlling the type of solvent and processing parameters. The average diameters of electrospun fibers were 5 and 12 ㎛ for chloroform and THF, respectively. In the case of TCE, the spinnability of PVCz was good and morphology was bead-on-fiber, which was ascribed to the difference in solution properties. The morphology of the collected nanowebs was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The shapes of nanofiber were rather planar not cylindrical, and the edges were bulging for chloroform and THF. |
