Polythiophene (PT) is one of the most interesting conducting polymers due to its remarkable electrical and optical properties. Herein we describe the facile fabrication of silica-PT core-shell nanospheres using seeded polymerization in solvent. The silica nanospheres with the diameter of 8, 12, and 22 nm were employed, and the ultrathin PT layers (2-4 nm) were successfully coated on the silica nanoseed. Furthermore, the resulting core-shell nanospheres were utilized as dispersed materials for electrorhelogical (ER) fluids. One of the applications of conducting polymer particles, it has been well known to adopt as dispersed materials for ER fluids. The electrical conductivity of PT nanospheres is appropriate for adopting ER fluids particles, 10-8 Scm-1. The yield stress of ER fluid was studied as a function of electric field strength and nanospheres’ size. |
