Drug release behaviors of mineralized hyaluronic acid-based hydrogels for bone tissue engineering |

Growing evidence show that three-dimensional (3D) environment reveals fundamental mechanisms of cell function and that 3D culture system in vitro can facilitate the understanding of structurefunction relationship in normal and pathological conditions. The development of hydrogels offers new opportunities not only for tissue engineering but also for setting up culture systems in vitro that recapitulate the 3D organization and the differentiated function of these tissues. This study aims to develop a biomineralized hydrogel system can serve as scaffolds promoting bone repair and regeneration. Biomineralization is an important natural phenomenon in bone, teeth, and shell formation. We prepared biomineralized hyaluronic acid-based hydrogels to apply biomimetic strategies to develop novel scaffold materials for bone tissue engineering.
