Tuning of Integrating and Integrating Processes with Dead Time and Inverse Response |

The design of the PID controller has been proposed for the integrating and integrating process with dead time and inverse response. The proposed method is based on the IMC principle for the disturbance rejection which causes the overshoot in the setpoint response. The two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) control structure has been suggested to eliminate the overshoot in setpoint response. The proposed method is used to design a PID controller for an isothermal continuous copolymerization rector and the performance is compared with the Sree & Chidambaram (2005) and modified gain margin method Luyben (1996). The method is extended for the level control of a boiler steam drum. The level control of a boiler steam drum shows a characteristic of the integrating process with dead time and inverse response Luyben (2003). The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed method when the controller is tuned to the same robustness level by evaluating the peak of the maximum sensitivity (Ms). The multiplicative uncertainty bound has been proposed based on norm-bound uncertainty principle for the selection of closed-loop time constant (λ). |
