Self-Organization of Molecular Hybrids into Functional Materials |
초록 |
Distinct macmolecular architectures such as linear block copolymers and dendrimer/dendrons are well-known as self-assembling soft materials and so far studied independently without research intersection due to their different histories. They possess different self-assembling behavior because of their significantly different molecular shapes. We have established a class of novel hybrid molecules, which share dendron and linear block copolymer features. The hybrid molecular system consists of a hydrophilic body (aliphatic ether based dendritic core and linear poly(ethylene oxide) chain) and hydrophobic peripheries. These molecules exhibit an unprecedented morphological behavior from 0-D micelle to 3-D network as a function of volume fraction and temperature. In addition to morphological study, a material application in adding functionality (conductivity) was accomplished through Li-ion doping. Charge transport properties can be systematically modulated as a function of structural dimensionality (from 0-D to 3-D) (see the figure below). These results suggest that molecular hybrids may provide an alternating molecular design concept for functional nanostructured organic materials.
