제목 Solid-state Polymerization Characteristics of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)
초록 Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)(PTT) is a newly commercialized polyester. PTT was first synthesized by Whinfield and Dickson in 1941. Since its commercial introduction in 1998 there has been an increased interest in PTT. PTT is particularly suited for use in textiles such as knit, nonwoven and carpet fiber applications. PTT fibers have excellent resiliency and softness of nylon fiber, good chemical stability and stain resistance of PET fibers. In this work, we studied the solid-state polymerization using PTT chip(IV=0.933, Shell Chemical Co.) and evaluated the change of molecular weight and carboxyl end group content with time of solid-state polymerization reaction. We used Mark-Houwink constants for PTT in 60/40 phenol/1,1,2,2,-tetrachloroethane as solvent at 30℃, and discussed the applicability of the single-point IV method for this polymer. Carboxyl end groups were determined by acidimetric titration and were compared with the results of gel permeation chromatography data.
