Polycarbonate has good mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. It is being applied in various fields. However, it has a disadvantage about surface scratch. Our study is to improve scratch properties for using in automoble, sheet, and electric equipments. The interfacial polymerizations were carried out in methylenechloride and water using triphosgene, triethylamine (TEA), tetra butyl ammonium chloride (TBAC), and 4,4’-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-valeric acid (BHPV). The valeric acid polymer was converted into acrylate form with iodomethane. Chemical structure and thermal properties of copolycarbonates were measured by 1H-NMR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The anti-scratch property was investigated by pencil hardness testing. The thermal stability of polycarbonates containing acrylated BHPV is lower than linear polycarbonate but pencil hardness is improved because of containing acrylate group. |
