Neutron Reflectivity Study of Interfacial Roughness of deutrated PS on Grafted PS layers |

The interfacial roughness of polymer/polymer layer is the key parameter for determining interfacial interactions between two polymer layers. In this study, we investigated the interfacial roughness the deutrated polystyrene on grafted polystyrene brushes using neutron reflectivity (NR). The various molecular weights of hydroxyl-terminated polystyrene (PSOH) were used to control the properties of brush layers, where the deutrated polystyrene were coated on grafted brush layers for confirming the ‘chain conformation effect’ of polymer films with its chain length. We will discuss the interfacial roughness effect, which was calculated from the NR result in terms of inter-penetration depth, and compare with previous results from our research group for glass and de-wetting transitions. |
