Amphiphilic block copolymers was self organized structures such as lamellar, cylinders, bicontinuous cubic, micellar cubic, close packed spheres, and disordered melt depending on the fraction of rod and coil. Therefore, they have a potential of great contributions to diverse applications. We studied amphiphilic rod-coil copolymers where the rigid rod block is poly (γ-benzyl-l-glutamate), PBLG, as the hydrophobic component and the flexible coil is poly (ethylene oxide), PEO, as the hydrophilic component. The length of the PBLG block was varied with the number of monomer units 38, 182, 419 while that of the PEO block was kept the same length, number of monomer unit of 273. Their pressure area isotherms that measured at the air-water interface have different transitions with rod coil ratio. Their temperature coefficients and compressibility was examed by single chain mean field theory. These results were compared with their morphologies measured by atomic force microscopy. |
