제목 | Surface Micellization of a Poly(phenylsilsesquioxane)-b-Polystyrene Diblock Copolymer at the Air/Water Interface |
초록 | Surface micellization of PPSQ-PS copolymer at the air/water interface was investigated by Π-A isotherm, hysteresis, and AFM images. Π-A isotherm of PPSQ-PS copolymer showed a monotonic increase of surface pressure with decreasing surface area. Extrapolation to zero pressure of copolymer, ca. 45Å2 /monomer, is same as the theoretical cross-sectional area of PPSQ unit, which means that PS block does not occupy the area on the air/water interface. To understand the aggregation process of the copolymer, hysteresis of the PPSQ-PS copolymer and PPSQ homopolymer was studied and we concluded that irreversible aggregation of this copolymer is mainly due to the attractive force between PS blocks. The formation of the surface micelle by the blending of PPSQ and PS , 2:1 wt%, has different mechanism of micelle formation. The limiting area of the PPSQ and PS blending in Π-A isotherm is smaller than area per molecule of PPSQ homopolymer . It is due to the two dimensional phase separation. In two dimensional phase separation, PS particles restrict aggregation of PPSQ homopolymer. As surface pressure is increased, transition from two dimensional phase separation to quasi two-dimensional phase separation is observed. the former is the state that whole molecules are on the two dimensional surface while the latter is the state that PS molecules move up on the PPSQ domains. |
