제목 SiO2 Ceramic Porous Substrate-Reinforced Sulfonated Poly(arylene ether sulfone) Composite Membranes for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells
초록 We develop a new ceramic-based porous substrate for a proton-conducting reinforced composite membrane targeting proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) applications. The ceramic porous substrate comprises hygroscopic SiO2 particles (530 nm) interconnected by tetraethoxy silane (TEOS)-based silicate binders inside a nonwoven. The SiO2 particles interconnected by the TEOS binders play a key role in improving mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, and water retention capability of the ceramic porous substrate. The nonwoven serves as a support layer offering flexibility to the ceramic substrate. The ceramic porous substrate is subsequently impregnated with sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone). Compared to the pristine SPAES membrane, the SPAES-impregnated composite membrane incorporating the SiO2 ceramic porous substrate offers the substantially improved dimensional change and is effective in retarding the steep decline of proton conductivity at a low humidity condition.
