Enhanced Performance of Microbial Fuel Cells Using Nanoengineered Electrodes |
초록 |
Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are devices which convert chemical energy into electricity through the catalytic activities of microorganisms. Electrons produced by microbially catalyzed anodic oxidation processes from substrates. Although MFCs generate electricity while treating waste water, there are still technical problems to develop and optimize for actual applications. Electrode materials play an important role in the performance and cost of MFCs. In this study, the effects of enlarging the specific surface area on the electrode by using Ti-mesh based anode was compared. Glucose is used as a carbon source and exoelectrogens were obtained from waste water in Hyeonpung sewage treatment plant. The voltage generation with Ti-mesh based anode was two times higher than the one with Ti-wire. The maximum voltage at steady-state was 0.5V. |
