제목 Near-Infrared Light Emitting Contact Lens for Diabetic Retinopathy
초록 Photobiomodulation using near-infrared (NIR) light is widely used for the non-invasive treatment of various ocular disease. NIR light activated the photo receptor of mitochondria and increase the therapeutic effect by accelerating the production of growth factors and cell proliferation. Here we fabricated NIR light emitting contact lens for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. NIR light emitting diode (LED) was integrated with the micro-sized battery and integrated-circuit chip, and successfully embedded in contact lens. Retina vascular hyper-permeability induced by diabetic retinopathy was inhibited by wearing NIR light emitting contact lens for 14 days. The first approach of ocular disease treatment using NIR light emitting contact lens makes possible to perform the treatment of diabetic retinopathy anytime and anyplace, thereby improving the convenience of the user. Moreover, this technology has the potential to be applied to various fields such as contact lens display, and fNIR.
