Addition of IrO2 to the anode in the PEMFC for enhancement of stability and performance under fuel starvation condition |
초록 |
The reverse voltage of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is generated when the hydrogen supplied to the anode is disrupted. This phenomenon causes severe damages the anode catalyst and is referred to as cell reversal. To increase the resistance of the membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) anode to cell reversal, iridium oxide (IrO2) was added to the platinum-based catalyst (Pt/C). The total amount of Pt/C and IrO2 in the electrode was kept constant, and the ratio was different for each electrode. To perform accelerated durability tests, local cell reversal was simulated by subjecting each of the prepared electrodes with an area of 5 cm2 to 100 reverse voltage cycle tests. Additionally, electrochemical and physical analyses were performed before and after the durability tests to ascertain the optimum IrO2 ratio in the fuel cell anode. |
