Ion Distribution in a 10 nm Layer ofElectron Transporting Conjugated Polyelectrolytes inPLED Devices Characterized by NEXAFS |
초록 |
NEXAFS measurements of the polyfluorene (PF) series provide new structural insights that are relevant for understanding the function of conjugated polyelectrolytes as electron-transport layers. Most importantly, we find a substrate-dependent accumulation of the ionic component of the polyelectrolyte at the top of the film. We also find an unusual orientation at the surface that suggests preferential ring conformations and molecular orientations in the tetrahedral counterions. These structural details may be highly relevant to the injection properties of the PF if the ion accumulation and molecular orientation is maintained after cathode deposition, and throughout device operation. From a broader perspective, the studies presented here shows that the assumption that conjugated polymer films are uniform at the molecular level is not always valid. |
