End group cross-linked structure sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (C-SPAES) were prepared by thiol-ene click reaction using vinyl polysulfone (VPSf) as a cross-linker. The cross-linking effects according to the contents of VPSf were studied and the cross-linked membranes show remarkably increased physical and chemical stabilities compared with linear SPAES. Although the proton conductivity of linear SPAES having high degree of sulfonated (DS), 67 mol% was not evaluated due to the low physical stability of membrane, those of cross-linked membranes could be obtained owing to the improved physical stabilities and the obtained values were also higher than those of the linear SPAES with the DS of 50 mol%. Moreover, the single cell performance of C-SPAES_7 which exhibits potimized proton exchange membrane properties shows maximum power density up to 692 mW cm-2, which is higher than that of Nafion 212 at 80 oC in 100 %RH condition. |
