Generally, uni- and multilamellar vesicles can readily be prepared in aqueous solutions of amphiphiles such as the mixtures of synthesized cationic and anionic single-chain surfactants or lipids, in which the vesicles are often observed in equilibrium. We report herein the unprecedented bilayer vesicles of an amphiphilic manganese complex of 5, 10, 15, 20-tetra-4-oxy(2-stearic acid) phenylporphyrin [Mn(III)-TPP(-COOH)] having four stearic acids on one side of the ring plane in the mixed solvent of CHCl3 and CH3OH (v:v = 4:1).This is the first time to observe the bilayer vesicles in nonaqueous solution, and the three-dimensional hollow shells can also survive in the dry state from water. |
