Polyurethane-based gel polymer electrolyte for high performance sodium polymer battery |

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been a leading power source for various energy storage systems. However, rising price of lithium sources has become a significant concern due to the limited amounts of lithium resources. In this respect, sodium-based batteries have been considered an alternative to the LIBs due to abundance of sodium resources in nature. However, the leakage and flammability of liquid electrolytes can trigger safety problems. Gel polymer electrolytes possess high ionic conductivity and importantly a better trapping capability of liquid electrolytes than conventional separators. In our study, we prepared polyurethane-based gel polymer electrolyte (PU GPE) and it was applied to the Na/Na3V2(PO4)3 cells. Our results indicate that the electrochemical performance of the sodium cells was enhanced by employing the PU GPE. |
