A robust superhydrophobic fabric was achieved by introducing a layered block copolymer film composed of poly(1,3,5,7-tetravinyltetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane) (p(V4D4)) and poly(1H,1H,2H,2H perfluorodecylacrylate) (p(PFDA)). This block copolymer film was deposited by a one-step initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD) process. The two polymeric layers formed a covalent bonding at their interface, and thus the layered block copolymer film was characterized by both the strong hydrophobicity from p(PFDA) and mechanical durability originated from crosslinked p(V4D4). The surface topography of superhydrophobic coating was systematically tunable by controlling the iCVD process parameter and a hierarchical structure was obtained. Fabrics coated with this block copolymer film displayed superhydrophobicity and chemical robustness even after chemical treatments. The fabric maintained its water repellency even after 20000 cycles of abrasion test and even after 75 cycles of laundry test. |
