One-step generation of multifunctional polyelectrolyte microcapsules via nanoscale interfacial complexation in emulsion |
초록 |
Polyelectrolyte coacervation and complexation are widely used as versatile techniques to prepare microcapsules with stimuli-responsive properties. However, conventional methods rely on multi-step and time-consuming, which can yield low encapsulation efficiency and do not allow for the simultaneous incorporation of hydrophobic materials limiting their widespread utilization. Here we introduce a new method to generate polyelectrolyte microcapsules based on interfacial complexation between oppositely charged weak polyelectrolytes by dissolving in the inner water and oil of a water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) double emulsion. Nanoscale interfacial complexation in emulsion allows us to prepare microcapsules with high efficiency of encapsulation and enables the incorporation of hydrophobic materials through the spontaneous dewetting of inner aqueous core. Also we demonstrate control of the mechanical and release properties of this construct. |
