Photonic crystal is a substance that has a lattice period of equal length, similar to the wavelength of light. The structure of a self-assembled photonic crystal of micropheres is also called an opal structure. By injecting the polymerizable monomers within opal, polymerizing them, and etching the opal particles, the inverse opal structure can be formed. If we use a hydrogel monomer, we can fabricate a hydrogel sensor responsive to a certain stimulus. However, the quality of sensors may vary depending on the fabrication method used to produce the hydrogel sensors. We can use Direct Enhanced Evaporation of Water for Colloidal Assembly (DEECA) method to fabricate hydrogel sensors, while there are difficulties to find optimal condition. Therefore, we investigate DEECA and Micromolding in Capillaries (MIMIC) for fabrication of inverse opal sensors, and compared the characteristics of two methods towards fabrication of optimized hydrogel sensor. |
