Triple shape memory polymers (T-SMPs) were prepared by melt blending of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) with supramolecular hydrogen-bonded polyolefin elastomer, which was prepared by crosslinking of semicrystalline maleated ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (A-EPDM). A key advantage of this approach is the recyclability of T-SMPs due to the presence of physical interactions. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the blend has two different crystalline melting transitions corresponding to melting temperatures of A-EPDM and PCL phase. Dynamic mechanical analysis of the blends showed three plateaus, and two well-separated transitions in the temperature range from 20 ˚C to 140 ˚C. It was found that two crystalline melting temperatures of each polymer component in the blend contributed to two different temporary shapes fixing and physically crosslinked elastomer contributed to the shape recovery mechanism. |
