Preparation and Characterization of Various Based Polypropylene/Organoclay Nanocomposites |

Both homo-co polypropylene (homo-coPP) and co-polypropylene (coPP)/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared via a melt-mixing through two-step melt compounding in a co-rotating intermeshing twin screw extruder. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MA) was adopted during compounding as a compatibilizer. Mechanical properties of homo-coPP/clay nanocomposites were observed to be efficiently increased compared with those of coPP/clay nanocomposites. The dispersity of silicate layers in the hybrids was investigated by using a X-ray diffractometer and transmission electron microscope. Thermal degradation of the PP/clay nanocomposites was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Several rheological tests for understanding of the characteristic rheological behaviors of these PP/clay nanocomcosites were examined. |
