Polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) are one of the most widely used siloxane polymers in various fields due to their not only biocompatibility and safety but also water-repellent properties. However, their low surface energy resulted from siloxane and methyl groups in the polymer chain makes the PDMS coating layer peel off from substrate. To solve such problem, we try to add vinyl-functionalized silica nanoparticles for the purpose to increase coating strength of PDMS and not decrease their hydrophobicity. Adhesion force of PDMS added vinyl-functionalized silica improved compared to pure PDMS and silica-added PDMS. Also, PDMS added vinyl-functionalized silica are thermally more stable than pure PDMS and silica-added PDMS. We supposed that the vinyl groups in silica chemically bond with hydrosilane groups in PDMS so that their coherence increase. |
