Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are one of the potential candidates to replace fossil fuel for vehicles or buildings. The performance of PEMFCs is highly dependent on the properties of bipolar plates which are major parts of the stack. The bipolar plates are mainly prepared using metal, graphite or carbon composite as main materials. Among them, the carbon composite bipolar plates have been developed to overcome limitations of metal and graphite bipolar plates such as low corrosion resistance and high price for manufacturing, respectively. So far, many manufacturing companies have investigated carbon composite bipolar plates. However, the carbon composite bipolar plates still exhibit a limitation on hydrogen permeability as decreasing thickness. Therefore, LG Hausys focuses on developing the process to solve this limitation. The developed process technology further enables to enhance electrical and physical properties and increase reproducibility for mass production. We describe our level among other competitors and our process technology to overcome the limitation of carbon composite bipolar plates in this presentation. |
