제목 Preparation and properties of covalently bonded polypropylene/layered silicate nanocomposites using the modification of clay
초록 Polymer/clay nanocomposites are widely used in various applications because they show substantial enhancements of thermal and mechanical properties compared to conventional filler composites. We studied polypropylene/clay nanocomposites by modifying clay with trimethoxy vinyl silanes to introduce new covalent bonds between modified clay and polypropylene. We prepared polypropylene/clay nanocomosites with the polypropylene, initiator and modified clay through the melt-compounding method. We observed the exfoliated structure of silicate layers in the PP matrix from X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The formation of a covalent bonding between the polypropylene and silicate layer surface was indicated by infrared spectrum (FT-IR). The mechanical and thermal resistance of the nanocomposites were measured by universal testing machine (UTM) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA).
