제목 Alignment behavior for calamitic and discotic reactive liquid crystals with acryl end groups on substrates with different surface energy
초록 The alignment behavior of the reactive rod type liquid crystal (R-RLC) with two acryl end groups and reactive discotic type liquid crystal (R-DLC) with six acryl end groups were investigated for the nematic mesophase on the polyimides with different surface energy by polarizing optical microscopy. R-RLC exhibited a homogeneous alignment on the polyimide with lowest surface energy. On the other hand, R-RLC showed a homeotropic alignment on the polyimide with long alkyl side chains. R-DLC exhibited a homeotropic alignment on the polyimide with lowest surface energy. On the other hand, R-DLC showed a homogeneous alignment on the polyimide with long alkyl side chains. These results indicate that we can control the alignment of the reactive liquid crystals by changing surface energy of the alignment layer.
