Basic dyes removal from wastewater by adsorption on rice husk carbon
Rice husk carbon (RHC) has been prepared from rice husk impregnated with 50% H3PO4 and carbonised at 300 degreesC. Its adsorption capacity has been tested for the decolourization of wastewater containing safranine and methylene blue. The effect of system variables such as concentration, temperature, pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage and particle size are investigated. Removal of dye has been found to increase with increase in dye concentration and pH of the solution. Kinetics of removal has been found to follow the first order rate expression. The adsorption isotherm data fitted both Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms. Thermodynamic studies show the adsorption to be an exothermic and spontaneous.
