The elemental balance has been used to calculate the critical (C/N) ratio in the microbial denitrification. A method of estimation of the critical (C/N) ratio has been proposed. The batch cultures of denitrifying bacteria Ervinia sp. on glucose, sodium acetate and methanol have been investigated, A good agreement between the theoretical calculation and experimental data has been obtained.
