Sorption isobars of tobacco materials required for the superheated steam drying processes
The results of sorption isobars determination of tobacco materials connected with the concept of cut tobacco drying with superheated steam, developed by the International Tobacco Machinery Poland, Ltd. are presented. The idea seems to be very attractive due to specific properties it adds to the product. An effort to determine the sorption isobars of cut tobacco (for both lamina and stems) at atmospheric pressure was made. A generalized equation describing the relationship between equilibrium moisture content of tobacco leaves, temperature and water activity is proposed. The equation can be applied to predict sorptional equilibrium of tobacco in a wide range of temperature and water activity.
